Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead has launched a community petition to request government build a public hospital for the Great Lakes area.

“Because of our growing and ageing population, I am asking residents to join a campaign for a public hospital in Forster Tuncurry, it is important we garner support so that we can demonstrate to the Sydney Health Bureaucracy that we are united in protecting our families and friends,” Mr Bromhead said.
“For those in the towns across the Great Lakes, the closest hospital is in Tare, from 40 minutes up to an hours’ drive away.”
Mr Bromhead said the 2016 Census figures show that the Great Lakes area has a population of over 24,000 and a growth rate of three percent. Those over the age of 50 make up 57.8 percent of the Great Lakes population.
On top of the static population are the 600,000 visitors the Great Lakes welcomes each year.
“I envisage a public hospital in Forster Tuncurry would offer an emergency department, medical imaging, ambulatory care and inpatient units and work in conjunction with Manning Hospital,” Mr Bromhead said.
