Significantly, this committed and friendly group of eight wishing to do something worthwhile resulted in raising in excess of an incredible $25,000.
“It was for such a great cause even our partners joined in the fundraising,” organiser, Helen Blackburn said.
Friend of the group, Jim Santas donated the magnificent prize of one week of accommodation in a two bedroom Tuncurry apartment at Lakeside Flats as a lucky door prize, and Leigh and Sally Klintworth also donated one week’s accommodation in a two bedroom unit in Forster as first prize in the raffle.
Local businesses generously contributed prizes and cash donations towards the fundraiser.
Further raffle prizes included a $500 petrol voucher, barbecue boat on Wallis Lake and a $400 outdoor umbrella, $200 Tupperware Pantry Set, and a family pass on board the Amaroo Dolphin Watch, along with many more prizes.
A fun-filled day produced even more funds with 200 people in attendance for the Great Lakes ladies do it for cancer luncheon, held at the Forster Bowling Club on Saturday, March 10.
To add to the excitement there was a fashion parade by W-Lane Boutique; DJ Phil Lovett donating his time to provide beautiful music throughout the day and well-known 2RE radio personality Anthony Zanos emceed the day.

Community relations coordinator for the Lower Mid North Coast, Katie Mead said 95 percent of Cancer Council’s funding comes directly from the community.
“Through initiatives like that of Helen and her seven helpers with her do it for cancer fundraiser, Cancer Council is able to conduct and fund world-class research that underpins Cancer Council’s prevention programs, information and support services and advocacy work.
“Research is fundamental to unlocking the answers that will help Cancer Council find a cure cancer.
“Cancer Council is committed to conducting and funding research that enhances outcomes across the entire cancer space and is of value to the whole community.
“The experience of having cancer can affect a person and their family for many years after treatment ends both physically and psychologically.
“Researcher, Dr Megan Chircop and her team are already making inroads into stopping the spread of malignant brain tumours, while a highly promising treatment of shutting down the energy supply in cancer cells is undergoing successful trials in people with solid cancer tumours.”
