The first of these special fundraising activities took place on Valentine’s Day, when the students created and decorated small parcels of shortbread to be distributed among classmates as a gift, to spread cheer and friendship.
“This type of task presents the students with an opportunity to develop their organisation and social skills with real life significance,” teacher, Micheala Sawtell said.
“The students developed some life skills comparing prices from the major supermarkets to budget for the ingredients, and many mathematical operations were exercised in the baking and packaging of the items.
“The students further developed skills in and understanding hygienic food handling, and utilised information and communications technology to design a selection of gift tags.
“The students were responsible for organising the distribution of the items, which involved writing orders, taking money and giving change.
“Thank you to the students and staff that have supported us, i is a pleasure to see such positive interactions amongst our school community.”
