Author Kim Hodges is visiting MidCoast Libraries during her book tour to talk about her new book Girl Over the Edge.
The book is a follow-up to her debut memoir, Girl on the Edge, released in 2016.
Girl Over the Edge is Kim Hodges’ raw memoir, detailing her lived experience of mental illness over five years. Her experiences will take the reader into severe episodes of depression, on the road to recovery and everything else in between.
“This memoir captures the denial, stigma and shame I have in my own mind about mental illness, the debilitating physical and mental agony of the illness, engagements with health professionals, and facing my own mortality,” said Ms Hodges.
The memoir will answer these questions:
- Have you ever wondered what happens in a mental health unit in a public hospital?
- Have you ever wondered what happens in a private mental health clinic?
- Or what an episode of severe depression feels like?
- Or considered what it is like to loose your rational mind to insanity?
Kim talks about her experiences in a raw, honest and confronting way that will strike a nerve with the listener. Her presentation will give you insight and also challenge beliefs, attitudes and reduce the stigma in society around mental illness.
She will be visiting Taree Library at 1pm on Thursday, May 12 and Tea Gardens Libary on Friday, May 4 at 2pm to give her presentation on her memoir and start a discussion in the community on mental illness.
