On Wednesday, January 10 Rodney and Warren Gill became the first same sex couple to be married in the Manning Valley following the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill late last year.
The couple signed the necessary paperwork on Saturday, December 9, the first day same sex couples could register to officially marry.
Surrounded by family and friends, the couple was married in the backyard of their Taree home.
“We wanted to have it at home,” Rodney said.
He was visibly excited just moments before the wedding.
“It’s fantastic and we’re ecstatic.”
The couple has been together for two years.
Jason Nicholson was the celebrant for the wedding after presiding over Rodney and Warren’s commitment ceremony six months ago.
He added he was overjoyed to see the same sex marriage bill passed.
They will have their honeymoon at Deception Bay on the Gold Coast.
