Great Lakes College senior campus, Tuncurry principal, Bob Henry was delighted with the excellent results.
Having seven students achieve ATAR results in excess of 90 is an outstanding achievement, Mr Henry said.
“Such strong results by so many students is a reflection of not only the abilities of our students, their dedication and application but also the excellent teaching they have received.
“In acknowledging my teaching staff for the excellent job that they have done I would also like to acknowledge the teachers across the Great Lakes Learning Community.
“Our excellent HSC results are a result of 13 years of quality education. We are very lucky to belong to such a strong Community Of Schools.”
Mr Henry extended a special congratulatory message to Billy Newman who was the 2017 senor campus DUX for 2017 and achieved an ATAR of 98.45.
Billy was joined in this elite category of students who achieved an ATAR above 90 by Petra Flower 95.5, (she is currently working on a short term mission in the Philippines, working in schools, orphanages and churches), Mia Gottstein 94, Ben Crowther 92.3, Rhys Thomas 91.85, Josh Diliger 91.15 and Ehlayna Walters 90.35
This year the college achieved band six in biology, chemistry, community and family studies, drama, advanced English, PDHPE, physics, senior science, society and culture, textiles and design, visual arts and Spanish beginners.
Forty five students achieved at least two band fives or better.

Mr Henry also mentioned Petra Flower for her outstanding success in major projects for three of her subjects.
Her success included, being nominated for callback for her core dance performance and her major study performance. Callback is a selection of outstanding performances and projects from HSC dance students; being nominated for ARTEXPRESS 2018 for her visual arts major works, The Door, and being selected for the OnSTAGE Drama exhibition for her drama design costume.
Congratulations also to Tully Church for her outstanding textiles major project, Mr Henry said.
“Tully’s project has been selected for inclusion in Texstyle, the annual exhibition of outstanding major textiles projects developed by HSC University Offers.
Based on information obtained from universities and UAC more than 85 applications for early entry at various universities were successful, with an additional 30 pending ATAR results.
As well, offers were made to students for placement into preparation programs.
“We had 63 students who included one or more Vocational Education Training Course delivered by the school in their HSC.”
These courses included construction, hospitality, metals and engineering, furnishing and Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways.
These students received a full Certificate II or a Statement of Attainment toward CII on top of the HSC qualification.
A further 57 students attained a full Certificate II or a Statement of Attainment toward CII in a course delivered by TAFE and the students were able to include these courses as part of their HSC.
Courses studied at TAFE included; tourism, automotive, business services, construction, electro-technology, human services, retail, animal studies, flight operations, beauty therapy, children’s services, property services, equine studies and hairdressing.
Two students included a school based apprenticeship or traineeship in vocational education courses (construction and electrotechnology) as part of their HSC that incorporated paid part-time work, training and school.
