“We have $20,000 prize money for each race to promote the event and get good horses travelling here,” Garry said.
“We’ve got horses are travelling from Newcastle and Kempsy and all along the North Coast on the day.”
The event, which will include seven races, is being sponsored by the Great Lakes Advocate.
Great Lakes Advocate sales manager Kelly Payne said the Advocate was the first corporate partner to sponsor an entire race day at the Tuncurry Forster Jockey Club in 2016.
“We're thrilled to be on board again in the same capacity, sponsoring the annual Christmas race day party.
“The Tuncurry Forster Jockey Club is a terrific story. In 2007 the course was almost deregistered by Racing NSW.
“Thanks to the vision and dedication of a new committee led by president Garry McQuillian and a small army of volunteers, the club's future looks strong. This continues to provide terrific benefits to our local economy.
“As the local newspaper it was not only fitting but extremely important that we committed to this partnership,” she said.
Several showpiece races include the Great Lakes Advocate Benchmark 65 Handicap (over 1400 metres), Manning Great Lakes Extra Benchmark 50 Handicap (over 2100 metres) and The Manning River Times Class 2 Handicap (over 1400 metres).
Nominations closed on Tuesday, December 5.
