Matthew James, 41, was last seen by family members at his Karuah home about 9am on Monday (December 4) after driving from the residence.
It is thought he could have headed to a bushland location in the local area, including in the Karuah, Medowie, Clarencetown, Swan Bay, Tea Gardens or Hawks Nest areas, although he has also spoken about travelling to Queensland.
Mr James suffers from a medical condition and as such there are serious concerns for his welfare.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 175-180cm tall with a medium to solid build and a long beard. He regularly wears a wide brimmed hat as pictured in a photo released by police.
Mr James is believed to be travelling in a 1989 white Toyota Hilux.
Police have conducted extensive patrols of the local area in an effort to locate him but at this stage have not been successful.
They are asking anyone with information about Mr James’ whereabouts to contact police from Port Stephens Police Local Area Command or Crime Stoppers.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
