Diamond Beach athlete James Turner has been acknowledged for his sporting and athletic achievements at the Myall Lakes Community Awards ceremony.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian acknowledged the efforts of Turner, presenting him with a Premier’s award.
James began his sporting career at the Forster-Tuncurry Athletics club as an eight-year-old and at age 15 joined the Hunter Academy Sport for athletes with disabilities in the middle distant running program.
He represented Australia at the 2016 summer Paralympics in Rio in the 800 metre and was ranked number two in the world in this event.
He won the men’s 800 metre T36 in world record time and was named Australian Paralympian rookie of the year.
He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2017 for his services to sport in the Australia Day Honours list.
When he isn’t training, James is studying a Bachelor of Mechanics at Wollongong University and has set his sights on once again representing Australia at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.
