Great Lakes groms Leila Salt, Oscar Salt and Jay Pink competed in the first event of the Surfer Groms Comps 2017-18 Series at Colloroy Beach in Sydney’s Northern Beaches on September 9 to 10.

Leila placed second in the under 12 girls division. She posted the highest single wave score of the division and won her second heat with a standout performance. However, she could not find a good wave in the large powerful surf in her first heat to consolidate the overall win.
Oscar placed fifth in the under 14 boys, narrowly missing a spot in the final. Needing a mid range score in his semifinal to progress, Oscar had the opportunity with five seconds on the clock only to come up short. He fell at the end of the wave and missed out by half a point.
Jay finished 6th in the under 14 boys with a quarterfinal finish. He surfed consistently through the rounds to set up his finals campaign but could not find the waves needed for a score to progress.
The trio will feature in the Kiama leg of the series on October 21 to 22.
