We generally find our members facing a bit of a dilemma – whether to go, or not to go.
Those with family living locally often find their kids have already organised something for them and there are those who plan to travel to be with their kids/grandkids on this important day.
This year our event directors thought outside the square and decided to celebrate the day on the Saturday and it proved to be right on the money.
Newer members, Kevin and Dianne offered to host the pre-Mother’s Day event at their new home at Diamond Beach, and more than 30 members assembled at the Rockpool on a picture perfect day for the very pleasant drive to Diamond Beach.
It was our first visit to their home for most of us, but finding their place was easy being the only house in the street with Kevin’s 1982 Pontiac Trans-AM and Dianne’s 2016 Ford Mustang parked in the driveway.
Ross and Mavis had their pristine 1975 Toyota Crown out for the day, Arthur Broadly was out in his very original 1971 Triumph 2000, with Bill and Anne Coulton along in their ever faithful 1939 Chevrolet.
Flying the flag for Aussie classics, Harvey and Ros Hayworth were at the wheel of their immaculate 1966 Holden Premier, while our two stalwarts of all things French, Brian and Avril Mills made the trip in from Coomba in their nifty 1978 Peugeot 604.
Club president Cliff Stockley and Daphne were along in their ‘new’ 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E, joining Brian and Judy Payne in their 1984 Baby-Benz.
With many members contributing salads, sweets and cold-cuts to the extensive range of hot offerings from the barbecue, it all made for a leisurely long lunch and may well prove to be the ideal format for future Mother’s Day events.
After lunch Cliff Stockley had arranged a series of games requiring considerable skills with an assortment of prizes for the winners.
Not surprisingly, the eventual prize winners were any thing but skilled, with lady luck playing a major part in just who won what.
So thanks to our generous hosts it was a ‘gem of a day’ at lovely Diamond Beach.
