A record 152 teams took to the field for 2017 instalment of the Great Lakes Football Club Viking Challenge at North Tuncurry Sporting Complex this past weekend.

History was made in the women’s open division as reigning champions TBA added their name to the honours board for a seventh time. They bested Beercelona with an extra time goal.
The men’s open division was taken out by Lewis Magic FC who scored a 4-1 win over local side Mick Perry Concreting.
The women’s division featured 42 teams with the men’s boasting 66 sides.
Event organiser Jerrad Allen said the finals played on Harry Elliott Oval gave the event an electric atmosphere.
“The spectators got to see some great football played all over the weekend with over 800 games played,” Jerrad said.
