“Police are looking into the origin of the fire,” said superintendent of the Rural Fire Service Mid Coast District, Kam Baker.
At about 1pm today (Tuesday, January 10), five Rural Fire Service crews consisting of 35 firefighters from the Mid North Coast were still working on the 15 hectare blaze at Waterman Street.
“We have containment lines established and are patrolling the perimeter and it is currently staying within those containment lines.”
Supt Baker said the fire has the potential to come near the edge of the caravan park but did not expect it to affect the caravan park.
He also said the nor-easter winds predicted for Tuesday afternoon “shouldn’t give us too much grief”.
“There is plenty of smoke within those containment lines.”
The fire started around 6pm to 7pm Monday with six Rural Fire Service crews responding.
