Forster Triathlon Club’s Christmas mystery triathlon was held bright and early at Forster Keys. More than 20 competitors took part, with three eager juniors starting before the seniors began just after 8am.

The sun was shining and the water was fairly warm, but windy conditions stirred up some chop in the lake, and it wasn’t easy riding the bike north into the head wind.
As is quickly becoming tradition for the club, it was decided to mix things up a bit. The event was club race number three for the 2018/19 triathlon season, but also a chance for members to get together and have a bit of fun.
Rather than follow traditional triathlon race order of swim-ride-run, competitors pulled their race order out of a hat at sign on. Some were more excited than others by the challenge they drew but a mystery wouldn’t be a mystery if you were allowed to choose.
All athletes began under the brand arch and split off in different directions at the race-directors call.
Rhett Pattison made his comeback after a broken elbow last hockey season. He was there to give club president Dave Fitzhardinge some competition on the bike.
If anyone is interested in joining the fun of club racing, there are plenty of options coming up in January.
Club race four is Sunday January 13; girls only triathlon Sunday January 20; aquathlon number two Friday January 25.
