A teenager was flown to John Hunter after falling from rocks at One Mile on Wednesday evening (November 22).
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene just before 7pm in response to information that the man had fallen some distance.
When the chopper arrived it winched in a doctor and paramedic. They found a 19-year-old with a suspected severe fracture to lower left leg.
He was assessed for spinal injuries.
He was treated by the doctor and paramedic then winched into the chopper and flown to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
The man told emergency personnel that he had gone to sit down on the rock edge, but slipped and fell.
Following the dramatic rescue operation, Facebook went into overdrive with posts praising the police, Westpac helicopter crew and emergency personnel for their great work.
Natalie Kelly, who lives nearby, captured this footage of the chopper coming in:
