But, that dream was shattered last Sunday, October 15 by one senseless act.
Years of toil, care and nurture were laid to waste when a thief broke into Vicki’s garden, ripping out and stealing seven of her prized rose bushes.
“It’s just so sad to think that these things happen,” Vicki said.
“We’ve lived here for four years, this is going to be our retirement house, and I’ve spent that time building a beautiful garden for us.”
The time and effort put into nurturing these plants is not for the benefit of some thief.

With more than $175 worth of plants taken, Vicki was devastated by the cruelty of the act.
“I’m not sure that I’ll even redo the garden, what if they just come back,” she said.
Vicki had friends visiting from Germany at the time of the theft, and had taken them out for the morning, but returned to a scene of destruction.
“When we got back we noticed the rose bushes were gone. They had taken seven and then pulled out two more and just left them there.”
As shocking as this robbery is, it’s not first time Vicki’s garden has been targeted.
In 2016 she had a couple of small rose bushes stolen from the same garden, one of which was a gift from her fellow workers when she finished working at Lifeline.
Vicki’s neighbor Patsi Sladen was equally saddened by the theft.
“The time and effort put into nurturing these plants is not for the benefit of some thief,” she said.
“Hopefully someone may notice a brand new rose garden in their area and say something.”
