Lucas plays in the under 10 age group and has set the bar already.
Lucas bowled three overs in the new format where he claimed four wickets and gave away just two runs. Those figures are extremely hard to achieve at any level, let alone someone who is nine years of age.
"I watched Lucas play in the under 10s last season and you could tell he had a lot of talent,” coach Craig Nichols said.
“Watching his bowling spell today was a pleasure and it could have been a lot worse for Taree West as he missed the stumps several time by millimetres. Well done Lucas.”
The under 10s ended up winning the game against Taree West and Great Lakes scored 3/67 off their allocated overs and Taree West scored 12 wickets for 56 runs.
In the under 12s, Great Lakes 8/125 was defeated by Old Bar 4/176.
There was a Great Lakes derby in the under 14s where Forster Plumbing side 7/131 beat our Great Lakes Air and Mechanical 6/69. Taree West finished 6/95 and defeated the Great Lakes Hogs Breath side (who were all out for 66). The under 16s had the bye.
This is the first year the club is implementing the new formats from Cricket NSW for the under 10s and 12s. So far the feedback is great. All the children have liked scoring more runs and being more active. The parents were happier seeing their child happy and more active.
Great Lakes Junior Cricket Club will be running a girls only competition that will begin next month. It will run on a Monday afternoon starting around 5 or 5:30pm and will run for no longer than an hour. Music and a barbecue will run to create a fun atmosphere.
The club hopes to have more girls involved with cricket and feels a girls only game structure reduces any barriers or stigmas. Keep an eye out on the Great Lakes Junior Cricket Facebook page or register your interest by emailing graham@robinson4950.com.
The club will also be starting a mix or boys mid-week style cricket on the same time but in a different area to the girls. This will be a great chance for any kids that want to play cricket but don't want to commit to Saturday morning or longer games.
