Close to a month has passed since the last of the bush fires burning in the area were doused.
More than 1800 hectares was lost in the Aerodrome Lakes Way bush fire, Tuncurry and Nabiac while an extra 483 hectares was burnt in Bulahdelah.
On the day of the fire keen amateur photographer, Michelle St James from Tuncurry managed to get her parents safely to Taree just before The Lakes Way closed.
It was unsettling to drive out, seeing the fire travelling closer to so many people's houses, Michelle said.
“It's great to see regrowth so soon, now with the rain, hopefully we'll see much more.”
