NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller APM will present the citation awarded for exceptional bravery to senior constables Brad Greenwood and Timothy Thumpston.
Both officers are conferred Valour Awards for conspicuous merit and exceptional bravery after rescuing a man from a smoke filled residence in Godwin Street, Forster in 2013.
On Saturday, May 4 2013, the police officers attended the premises where the garage was on fire, and learned a man was trapped inside the house.
Senior Constable Greenwood forced his way through the front door before both officers entered the house which was fully engulfed with smoke.
The officers located a man inside and brought him outside.
They then attempted to stop the fire spreading by using a garden hose until other emergency services arrived.
Commissioner Fuller said the Valour Award was the highest commendation that he could bestow on officers for acts of bravery.
“This award acknowledges the extraordinary courage, selflessness and professionalism displayed by each of the officers in the line of duty,” Commissioner Fuller said.
“These officers have demonstrated the highest standards of the NSW Police Force, risking their own safety for the protection of others.
“It is an honour to present Valour awards recognising the outstanding actions of these officers.”
