A total of 47 teams took on the 153 kilometre course, now in its second year.
The Mid North Coast was well represented in the event with Wingham’s David Darby and Dyers Crossing’s Shane Griffis coming into the event seeded fourth. A blistering opening stage saw the duo in second place before a fuel pump issue prematurely ended their campaign.
Despite their quick exit, Shane said the track provided a mix of technical and fast driving.
He added that a large group made the journey from areas such as Sydney, Bathurst and Bega for the event in what was a welcome boost for the Bulahdelah economy.
Among the younger competitors in the field, Wingham’s Brett Kerr navigated for Newcastle’s Jake Bramble.
They unfortunately encountered issues and were forced to withdraw.
Central Coast’s Tony Sullens and Kaylie Newell were consistent across all stages to take out the event in a time of one hour, 42 minutes and 46 seconds.
Oxley Island’s Peter Neal teamed up with Craig Whyburn to finish fourth overall in one hour, 48 minutes and 36 seconds.
The next round will be held in Orange on September 16 before the final round at Johns River on October 28.
