So, it is refreshing to know that all money raised at the Forster-based Salvation Army Family Store remains in the Great Lakes to provide on-going charity work to members of the community in need.

Next Monday, July 31 the Salvation Army will celebrate its second birthday at the church’s ‘new’ location in Enterprise Court.

Lieutenant Philip Sutcliffe said he can’t believe two years have passed since they store moved into its larger premises.

About two thirds larger than the original Head Street premises, the location enables the outlet to not only sell the traditional clothing and footwear, but expand into furniture, electrical and bric-a-brac.

“The big benefit for us is the storage and sorting,” Lieutenant Sutcliffe said.

“Every day there is new stock coming into the store,” he said.

More than 5000 articles of clothing are neatly hung and sorted in either men, women, children’s categories along with a collection of new and near new exquisite wedding dresses, veils and matching shoes.

While the wedding outfits range in price for $100-$150, offers will be considered Lieutenant Sutcliffe said.

Many people ask why buy secondhand when new items can be bought for similar prices at K-Mart or Target, he said.

Much of the clothing includes well-known brands and every item is thoroughly inspected to ensure it is clean and in top quality.

During the past handful of years the store has enjoyed increasing sales.

“Last year was the best in five years.”

This Monday’s celebration includes a range of fabulous sales and bargains, along with a free barbecue and birthday cake with entertainment provided by the Salvos very own brass band in between 11am and 1pm.

And, during that time any furniture purchased through the outlet will be delivered free of charge.
