Further north in the Hastings region deers have long been identified as a pest animal.
Left to wander on the road they can pose a significant threat to motorists.
Adam, from Forster was on his way to work when he came across the couple of deer at 4.30am.
I nearly ran into this pair, he told the Great Lakes Advocate on Facebook.
“I coaxed them off the road then rang the police.
“Didn’t expect to ever see that in town.”
