With James Handford out following the hamstring injury suffered in the game the week before against Gloucester, Bulls coach Lee Sullivan was keen to trial different combinations of players on the paddock.
The Old Bar Clams took to the field determined to disrupt the Bulls run and the home crowd were hopeful that the Clams would cause an upset.
Throughout the 80 minutes, the Clams tried every trick in the playbook to stop the stampede.
Despite a significant improvement in form, the Bulls proved to be too strong.
Bulls fly half Matthew Woods played his game of the season to orchestrate the Bulls attack and defence.
He also laid the foundations for some of the excellent tries scored by the Bulls backs by taking advantage of the attacking force of the Bulls forwards.
Young Curnow, playing in the fullback position for the first time, set up the Bulls first try before the forward pack moved in to open the scoring for the Bulls.
The Bulls’ hard work at training continued to pay off, with improved discipline in reducing the penalty count.
Despite Old Bar holding the Bulls to account, the Bulls’ lineout and scrum dominated the Clams for the majority of the 80 minutes.
Bulls coach Lee Sullivan paid tribute to the Clams and the efforts of his side.
“The Clams have improved dramatically this season and even though it wasn’t evident on the scoreboard, they challenged our game plan for the full 80 minutes.
“The Bulls handled James Handford being out and it gave the coaches opportunity to try a few different combinations of players.
“For me, the standout players for the Bulls this weekend were Saul Clough, Andy Paynter and Steven Curnow,” Mr Sullivan said.
The full time score was Wallamba Bulls 88 – Old Bar Clams 0.
This allowed the Bulls to take their seventh bonus point of the 2017 season and retain their position at the top of the table.
The Wallamba Bulls Caltex Nabiac player of the match was Saul Clough.
In other results from the Lower Mid North Coast competition, Forster- Tuncurry Dolphins defeated Tea Gardens 100-15 and Manning Ratz defeated Gloucester Cockies 33-7.
On June 3, the Bulls will travel to Taree to take on the Manning Ratz with the Nabiac Hotel supporters bus leaving the hotel car park at 2pm for a 3pm kickoff.
In other games, the Myall Coast Mud Crabs will host the Gloucester Cockies and the Old Bar Clams will host the Foster-Tuncurry Dolphins.
