Excellence in Retail Services
Winner: Lumpy’s Nursery & Landscape Yard owned by Jeff and Jenny Rodick
- Runner-up: Business of the Year
- Runner-up: People’s Choice
- Highly commended: Excellence in Customer Service
Fairfax Media: Congratulations Jenny, can you tell us how long you have owned your business?
I own Lumpy’s with my husband Jeff. We developed the business from scratch and have many long-term customers. In February, we moved to a custom-prepared site after trading successfully on rented land across the road in Chapmans Road, Tuncurry since 2003.
FM: What is the purpose of your business?
Lumpy’s provides a total customer experience. We offer a broad range of plants and landscape products meeting the needs of home owners, councils, contractors, developers and landscapers.
Importantly, we provide personalised and specialist advice to customers with plant queries and problems and everything from a courtyard makeover to a full landscaping job.
In addition, we have diversified into garden gift and decorating lines and attracting groups and garden clubs who make the nursery a destination. This sets us apart from our main chain store competitor in Forster.
FM: What do these awards mean to you and your business?
Winning these awards is a win for our whole team, highlighting their dedication, hard work and perseverance in establishing and developing Lumpy’s as it is today. It has also given us the opportunity to showcase our comprehensive range of products and services and our commitment to service, quality and value for the local community.
FM: What are the future directions or goals of your business?
We plan to turn Lumpy’s into a destination, where people have an experience to meet and socialise, rather than just shop.
We plan to continually grow and eventually add a café, more gift lines and more shaded areas for customers and plants.
