Over the past four months, the #GiveAFlyingDuck promotion has seen the iconic Virgin Limited Edition rubber ducks star in Instagram posts around the world.
For every picture shared on Instagram featuring the ducks and the unique hashtag #GiveAFlyingDuck, Virgin made contributions to various charities including the Eve Branson Foundation.
Thousands of entries were submitted, including several from the personal Instagram page (@charlottespark) of BIG4 Great Lakes Park Mmnager, Margaret Shannon and her five year old daughter, Charlotte.
Richard Branson personally perused all of the entries, eventually selecting a winner and two runners up, one of which was an entry of Charlotte fishing on the foreshore of the BIG4 Great Lakes at Forster-Tuncurry with one of the Virgin Limited Edition ducks.
Richard Branson shared the news of the winning entries on his personal Facebook page and blog, and had this to say: “After thousands of entries, we whittled our flying duck entries down to a final 10, and then I spent some time deciding a shortlist of three entries I particularly loved.
“My criteria were simple: which photo stood out to me visually, while capturing a sense of adventure, unpredictability and, crucially, fun.
“The entries from the two runner-ups were firm favourites and really made us chuckle when we saw them.
“One from Charlotte was adorable, with the duck joining a delightful fishing trip.”
The team at the BIG4 Great Lakes were delighted with the attention that the park has received from Richard Branson, and believe the photo sums up the culture of adventure, fun and a family friendly atmosphere that the award-winning park is renowned for.
As well as the personal recognition by Mr Branson, Charlotte received a full collection of the Limited Edition rubber ducks, and a print copy of the Instagram post, signed by Richard Branson himself.
The ducks have been photographed all around the world, such as Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom and USA.
The winning entry by a woman named Josephine (@jduff46) depicted a duck on the end of a ski. Charlotte’s fellow runner-up posed two ducks on the flight deck of an aeroplane.
The ducks are representatives of picturesque global holiday destinations such as Mont Rochelle, Ulusaba, Mahali Mzuri, Son Bunyola, Kasbah Tamadot and Necker Island.
