The Cockies were a revitalised side after their win against Old Bar and came into the match determined to make the Bulls work for every point. The Cockies demonstrated true grit in their performance against the Bulls, where the large forward pack regularly dominating the Bulls in scrums and the defence showed great improvement over the previous round.
In the first half the Bulls were able to spread the ball around the paddock with Jake Schumaker, Reece Hessing, Andy Paynter, Tim Horne, Christopher Tout and Jim Diamond all adding points and keeping the Bulls goalkicker busy. In the lead up to half time, the scoreboard sat at 54-0 as the players left the field.
With the Bulls kicking off, The Cockies came out firing in the second half, went straight into attack and left everything on the paddock in a solid display of kicking rugby that saw the ball kicked from one end of the field to the other on 6 successive plays.
Despite the resurging form of the Cockies, the Bulls were able to add an additional 36 points in the second half with tries to Lee McDonald, Shorty, Jake Schumaker and Christopher Tout in the second half for the Bulls.
The Bulls’ Dan Aldridge was again a pivotal player with his hard hitting style of attack that really opened up opportunities.
The Bulls did not have everything there way with James Handford suffering a hamstring injury and will likely be out for a few weeks at least. The Gloucester Cockies were able to demonstrate the true strength of rugby on the lower mid north coast, congratulating the Bulls and celebrating in style despite the final score of 90-0.
A true demonstration of a great rugby club who play for the love of the game.
In other lower mid north coast results, the Forster-Tuncurry Dolphins defeated the Manning Ratz 45 - 7 and the Myall Coast Mudcrabs defeated Old Bar Clams 32-0. The Bulls win was a club record points haul and with a sixth bonus point from six games, the Bulls have continued their stampede in the Year of the Bull.
With Head Coach Lee Sullivan on leave, Jim Wilson took on the head coach role, Jim was happy with the win and in particular “the guys really stuck tour game plan and it paid off with the whole team contributing to the win.”
The Bulls Krambach Hotel player of the match was the best Number 15 in the competition, Christopher Tout.
In a change to the draw, the Wallamba Bulls will travel to Old Bar on May 27 for a 3pm kickoff.
This will enable the Bulls to play a night game under the newly installed lights from Mid Coast Council at the Bull Pen later in the round.
The Nabiac Hotel Bulls supporters bus will leave the Hotel car park at 1.30 pm for what promises to be another great demonstration of grass roots rugby being alive and well in the bush.
