Batten down the hatches: some heavy rain is on its way.

Meteorologist with Weatherzone Graeme Brittain says some solid falls were expected on Friday and Saturday before opening up to a brighter Sunday.

However, Thursday will be predominately dry with a chance of some showers through the evening.

“That rain will be driven in on an easterly breeze before the real rain is set to arrive through the course of Friday and Saturday,” he said.

“A low pressure trough will bring between five and 10 millimetres of rain on Friday – and it will be consistent throughout the day – while Saturday could see as much as 10 to 20 millimetres.

“However, we could see up to 50mm of rain at some centres around the Mid-North Coast.”

Mr Brittain said Thursday’s top temperature would climb to 22 degrees before dropping to just 19 degrees on Friday for both the coast and further inland. Saturday’s maximum is forecast to be 22 degrees.

“Sunday will see rain tending to showers with some dry spells throughout the day,” he added.

Sunday will see a top of 23 degrees with a few millimetres of rain forecast.

Moving into the early part of the new working week, conditions should be relatively dry with top temperatures of around 22 degrees, which is above the 21.7-21 degree average for this time of the year.

“The early part of the working week should be accompanied by sunshine; it will actually be quite pleasant,” he added.

The strongest winds are forecast for Friday and Saturday. The swell on Saturday could reach up to 1.5 metres before easing on Sunday and through the early part of the week.
