Thanks to a successful grant application MidCoast Libraries has received $172,658 from the State government to transform Gloucester library.

The funding will be used to install completely new shelving, a meeting room, new casual seating, update the technology, install a new circulation desk, install new automatic doors as well as putting in new blinds and repainting and re-carpeting the facility.

This will see the library having the facilities and services that are such an important part of the contemporary library.

It really will become the community living room.

Now that is something awesome to cheer about.

We’re in the cloud now – or at least our library management system is.

That means that we can offer a great new feature to our catalogue.

It’s called a carousel.

It shows titles of new items we’ve purchased that you can scroll through.

Really cool.

Speaking of cool – we’ve got a great FOGLLS event looming.

It’s a Fascinating Folks night.

The Friends are running with a healthy theme this time.

We’ve got three awesome guest speakers – Megan Jones, who will be talking about the benefits of yoga, Linda Thacker, a podiatrist, who will speak on how to empower people through care of their feet and Ann Schubert, who is well known around the region as an expert on Bowen Therapy.

What a cast.

It’s at Forster library on Monday, May 8 from 7-9 pm.

A light supper will be provided and … it’s free of charge.

Brilliant.

Speaking of great things, take the time to check out our wonderful Anzac exhibition, featuring John Bonventi’s private collection.

It’s on display until May 8.

And for those who are interested in the new library, the exhibition period for the development proposal for the civic precinct should be closed by the time you read this.

Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly.

Council is also planning community consultation sessions regarding this.
