At approximately 7.30 am today (March 15), emergency services were called to the intersection of The Lakes Way and Coomba Park Road, Smiths Lake, following reports a Holden Commodore sedan had crashed.
A 43-year-old male passenger died at the scene, while the 39-year-old female driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Manning hospital to undergo mandatory blood testing.
Officers attached to Manning/Great Lakes local area command with assistance from crash investigation unit established a crime scene and began an investigation.

The passenger of a Holden Commodore sedan has died at the scene of an accident on The Lakes Way, near Charlotte Bay.
At approximately 7.30am, on Wednesday, March 15 the vehicle, being driven by a male, left the road and crashed into a telegraph pole.
The vehicle was driving in a northerly direction on a straight section of the road.
The driver, who was not seriously injured, was later taken to Manning hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
Police Rescue, Manning Great Lakes LAC traffic and highway command, general duties officers and the crash investigation unit are attending the scene.
Forster duty officer John Sullivan said police would remain at the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
Inspector Sullivan urged any witnesses to contact either Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000. or Forster police on 6555 1299.
Drivers are warned to take extra care on the roads as the chance of a thunderstorm and heavy falls continue throughout the day.
