The 12-year old will compete in the Under 14s boys division against some of Australia’s up and coming groms (young competitors).
The event is a part of the 2017 Australian Open of Surfing and is regarded as the largest lifestyle and action sports festival in the country.
Oscar said he is looking forward to testing his abilities against tough competition.
“It's great to be a part of such a big event and to compete against some of the best kids in the country and test myself.
“Being at a QS 6000 event, it will be awesome to see and surf with all the top guys and girls from around the world and check out the music and skating events,” Oscar said.
The local grom is no stranger to success after competing in the Skullcandy Oz Grom Open last year as well as taking out the Under 12s boys division at the 2016 Port Stephens Surfarama event.
He hopes to carry this momentum to the Grom Challenge.
Oscar is set for a busy year with several events and championships on his radar.
“After this event I am travelling on a surf trip through North Sumatra for the month of April, then onto regional titles to hopefully qualify for NSW State titles in July.
“There are other events that I am looking at doing through the back half of the year also,” Oscar said.
