A bushfire at Nabiac is under control after it was deliberately lit on Friday.

As reported in the Newcastle Herald, a former volunteer firefighter is accused of sparking two bushfires while in the company of two children.

The fire on Dargavilles Road will be attended to by Great Lakes crews and the state mitigation support team as a precaution.

A nearby communications tower could be threatened if the size of the fire increases. 

Gloucester Great Lakes RFS Public Liaison Officer Stuart O’Keefe said the crews remain hopeful expected rainfall can assist with the operation.

Following a tumultuous weekend of bushfires, Stuart stated that every available resource and crew was used.

Out of area teams were also dispatched to assist local crews.

Stuart said crews will remain on high alert to response to any new fires.

“We’ve still got a lot of work ahead of us,” Stuart said. 

A grassfire at Coolongolook is currently being controlled by fire services.

Unprecedented hot conditions did not help the situation at Bulahdelah with the mercury reaching 46 degrees on Sunday. 

Residents were pleased with a change in conditions for the start of the working week with showers and a top of 27 degrees.

Forster Tuncurry experienced cooler but humid conditions with top of 34 degrees.
