At around 4pm on Wednesday a white Holden sedan was clocked doing 123kph in a 100km zone on the Pacific Highway at Nabiac.
Police stopped the vehicle and as they approached the car, the driver sped away.
A police pursuit was initiated, but was stopped just before Riverlands Estate, near Coopernook when police received news the vehicle had crashed at Coolongolook and the driver had run away.
Police later received information indicating the driver had received a lift to a Bulahdelah motel, where he was arrested. He was charged with two arrest warrants and possession of steroids.
He faced Forster Local Court the following day.
