And, they did it for fun, and a well deserved ice cream.

Under the supervision of their parents and organiser, Aaron Dodds the young and enthusiastic budding environmentalists collected an assortment of rubbish needlessly discarded and left without any care for the area.

“An hour in the sun and these kids collected so much rubbish which included plastic, glass, nappy wipes, water bottles, clothing, scales, broken ceramic plates and much more,” Aaron said.

“It’s amazing seeing youth, the future, have fun cleaning up our amazing coastline.  

“These kids turned it into a game of whom can collect the most, where they all were rewarded with an ice cream.”

But, Aaron’s clean up mission of Forster hasn’t ended there.

Every few weeks Aaron and and like minded people in Forster hold a clean up afternoon.

Earlier this month Aaron, Anthony Murphy and Josh Aurisch cleaned up the base of Cape Hawk Look out, and within half an hour the boys had collected boot full of rubbish. 

More than three cartons of beer bottles, a shopping bag full of plastic bottles, so much plastic, clothing, shoes, cd rack, cassette tapes, maccas rubbish and much more, was collected, Aaron said.

“Two weeks before, Josh Aurisch and I dived Cape Hawk Harbour from the end of Tuncurry Breakwall to Hamilton Oysters and collected over 500m of fishing line, car tyres, plastic, glass bottles, aluminum cans, fishing tackle or bait bags and more. 

“We are planning for most Wednesdays coming into summer from 4pm to be doing similar, an hour or so of clean up in different locations in paradise, The Great Lakes.”
