Held mid-October, the Vissla Surf Port Stephens Surfarama contest is the final stop of four events, following contests at Avoca, Narrabeen and Kiama. 

Surfers from up and down the eastern seaboard attended the event along with a large contingent of Great lakes surfers all vying to finish the year on a high. The conditions that greeted the surfers for the event were ideal with a nice swell running and favourable winds for most of the weekend.

In the Under 12 Boys Boomerang Beach surfer Oscar Salt came out victorious with a dominant display in a tightly contested division. His event was the largest division in the comp, with the young Grommets hungry to take the title. Oscar surfed aggressively throughout his heats attacking each wave with major manoeuvres and posting large score combinations to leave his rivals chasing him. Oscar had a nervous moment in his semi final when he was called by the judges for a paddling interference, for which he would lose half of his second highest score. Luckily he had posted three high scores and still managed to go on and win the heat. Despite challenging conditions in the Final, Oscar managed to secure two left handers and perform a combination of back hand snaps to gain victory and the $700 first prize. 

Other Great Lakes surfers to compete were Ross Cadden with fifth place, Shane Cadden on sixth, Jed Mcdonagh on sixth and Jay Pink and Charlize Everrit going out in the rounds.

All the surfers competed extremely well with some heats decided by the smallest of margins. Junior surfing in the Great lakes Region is very strong at present with local surfers gaining some impressive results.
