Forster’s Laia Pasini will take on some of the country’s best young tennis players when she competes at the National Clay Court Championships in Canberra later this week.

Laia gained entry into the championships as one of the top 32-ranked under 14 players in the country.
The 14-year-old, who is in year nine at Great Lakes College, is ranked 17 in her age group in Australia.
Laia’s coach, Jaimie McDonagh, said qualification for the championships was a notable achievement itself.
“Just to achieve that rank and get in is massive,” he said.
Jaimie, who has coached Laia for the last 18 months, said her work ethic and aggression on court would hold her in good stead at the championships.
“She puts the work in at training and makes the most of her ability,” he said.
“She trains hard, has a big forehand and a great work ethic, and she’s very aggressive on court.
“She’s got no fear.”
Laia’s mother, Marlay. said the family were “very proud and excited” about Laia’s participation in the championships.
“We’re very grateful to Jaimie and the tennis club, it’s very exciting,” Marlay said.
Laia will arrive in Canberra on Wednesday, with the draw to be done before the tournament starts on Friday.
The tournament will run over six days.
