Milligans was nominated in four categories for the region’s gala award night on Friday, including Business Leader, Business Ethics, Innovation and Excellence. Owners Deborah and Ian Atkins found themselves accepting the first award announced on the night, and will move on to the state finals in November. They purchased the business nearly fours years ago.
”It’s just so good,” said Deborah, thanking their suppliers. The former child protection officer also admitted she found it hard to keep going in their first year of business after losing her brother to suicide.
“But we did it, we kept going… Winning the award was a huge moment.”
Ian said it was the award he most hoped to win, as it covers most aspects of a business.
“It’s more of an all round type of thing.”
