Ben-Hur is stripped of his title and separated from his wife Esther (Nazanin Boniadi) and family. He is sentenced to endure years of slavery and torture on a galley. But he later survives a wreck and starts life anew, dreaming of revenge. He gets his chance when he competes against his betrayer in a violent chariot race. But an encounter with Jesus Christ (Rodrigo Santoro) teaches him the importance of mercy and compassion, and leads him to discover forgiveness and find redemption. This version of Ben-Hur was penned by John Ridley, and directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted). It also stars Morgan Freeman as Nubian gambler Sheilk Ilderim, who takes Ben-Hur under his wing.
