The Dolphins completed the season undefeated and always looked to have control in the decider. Wallamba, playing in the club’s first grand final, was unable to rise to the occasion.
Colin Harris from Forster-Tuncurry was named player of the match.
However, the news wasn’t as good on the rugby league front for Forster-Tuncurry with the Hawks going down to a depleted Taree City 32-28 in the elimination semi-final at the Jack Neal Oval.
The Bulls earned praise from coach Gary Bridge following their spirited win. Taree will now meet Wingham in Saturday’s minor semi-final after the Tigers were beaten 36-22 by Port City in a controversial preliminary match at Wingham. The Tigers lost second rower Michael Richards who was sent off by referee Barry Murray just before halftime on a striking charge.
This means Sunday’s major semi will be an all-Port Macquarie affair with Port Sharks to tackle Port City.
Group Three Junior Rugby League grand finals will be played on Saturday at Wauchope.
Taree bounced back from some recent indifferent form to account for Kempsey Saints 2-0 in the Football Mid North Coast Premier League elimination semi-final at Kempsey. The scores were locked at 0-0 at halftime but second half goals to Jordan Howard and Ricky Campbell steered the Wildcats into week two of the finals.
Taree will meet Camden Haven in the minor semi-final on Saturday while Tuncurry-Forster plays minor premier Wallis Lake in the major. Tuncurry-Forster defeated Camden haven 2-1 in the preliminary semi-final.
Giant killers Hallidays Point charged into the southern all age grand final when beating Pacific Palms 4-2 in a preliminary final played at Pacific Palms. Tinonee Eagles secured the other grand final berth when thrashing Lansdowne 8-2.
The grand final will be played at the Zone Field at Taree Recreation Centre on Saturday.
