It's a long time ago. A quarter of a century since I moved into the Manning/Great Lakes and jointly founded the very successful Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club.

The 25th year is actually reached in December but I thought I'd reminisce just a tad early.
In 1991 George H W Bush was president of the US, Paul Keating was Prime Minister, Penrith were NRL premiers. The first Gulf War was started and finished. Change in our world was accelerating.
Back to the birth of the Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club - in a previous life I was a bank manager and was transferred from Coffs Harbour to manage the Tuncurry branch of the State Bank.
At that stage I was the proud owner of three historic buses. On my arrival in the Great Lakes I noted no car club existed. I got together with Allen Curtis (owner of the now defunct Curtis Collection in Angel Close, Forster) and local builder and avid car collector Col McDonald. The three of us founded the Great Lakes Historic Automobile Club.
The inaugural meeting was held at the Curtis Collection in December 1991. Our first run to One Mile Beach in February 1992 with some eight vehicles. We proudly travelled the Forster/Tuncuury bridge in procession.
The club's foundation ethos was to be a family and member club with the vehicles as a common denominator.
Like all groups the club has had its ups and downs over the years but continues to grow and is a very important part of the fabric of the local area.
Other commitments have seen me drop out of the picture in regards the club after 22 years as secretary and magazine editor.
I do wish the club a prosperous and contented future and many more years of happy and safe motoring.
