The day was an extension of last season’s Old Boy’s Day, where former TFFC players could gather, reminisce and cheer on the club’s current premier league sides.
This year’s event featured an old boys and girls match as the premier league curtain-raiser, with many of the club’s former greats pulling on the boots and, in some cases, turning back the years with a sensational display of silky football.
The match featured live, on-field commentary from Lance Fletcher, and was officiated by local refereeing legend Warren Blanch and by World Cup referee Nathan Gibson, standing in for his dad Brian who was regularly seen holding the whistle in the 90s.
After the dust cleared, the old boys and girls settled in to watch the club’s current first, reserve and third grade sides all rack up wins to ensure the mood stayed festive.
The evening saw the resurrection of the classic Tigers’ fancy dress party at the Bellevue Hotel, with some of the old Tigers very difficult to recognise as they partied into the night in costumed splendour.
The entertainment was provided by young up-and-coming local band Le NOB, who pumped out some eighties classics alongside some more modern fare.
The youngsters were gracious enough to allow some of the Tigers legends to have a jam as well, which amused the crowd immensely.
The night featured slide shows, raffles, lucky door prizes, video footage of games gone by and a display of memorabilia from the 80s and 90s.
In the end, the whole event raised $2000 for the wounded Tigers’ fund, which will be used to help support current players who, while playing for the club, have sustained serious injuries requiring surgery.
Organiser Peter Ragno said: “Hopefully this can become a regular fixture on the annual calendar.
“It was great to see so many old faces again, and we are looking forward to staging the event next year."
