More than 100 members of the public gathered at the tribute, where former mayor Paul Hogan thanked all council employees in an emotional address.
Former general manager Ron Posselt paid tribute to life-long council employees, acknowledging “to have your organisation taken away from you in the middle of the night is quite traumatic”.
Tensions are still high nearly two months after the State-forced amalgamations were announced, with a vocal contingent of protesters attending the council meeting in Taree on Wednesday.
Speeches were heard from more than 10 members of the public ahead of the meeting, with the majority voicing their continued anger over the amalgamations.
Speeches lasted for over an hour before MidCoast Council administrator John Turner accepted the recommendations of 22 items listed for consideration.
