This year's Combined High Schools (CHS) NSW Open Football Knockout, the Puma Cup Competition, Forster was vying for a first time place in the finals.
The match against Epping Boys High School was played at Forster campus in front of an enthusiastic crowd of supporters.
The game was fast paced with both teams displaying ferocious tackling and sublime ball skills.
Both Epping BHS and Great Lakes College had several early chances to score with the Epping goal keeper pulling off a great save from a Jayden Carmody header inside the six yard box.
The game was evenly poised until a moment of individual brilliance from the Epping BHS left winger who received the ball from a free kick and successfully shot at goal.
GLC continued to attack the Epping BHS goal but their efforts were in the end fruitless. The final score was Epping BHS one GLC nil.
The players from both teams displayed outstanding sportsmanship, evidenced by a complete absence of cards from the referee.
The GLC team – used throughout the campaign –consisted of James Mc Bride, Jake Bindon, Brock Gutherson, Troy Chipperfield, Zac Mooney, Will Moran, Joey Newman, Bayden Schumann, Callum Smith, Jake Camilleri, Jayden Carmody, Jaiden Kianou, Daniel Barry, Jake Stockdale, Billy Newman, Clayton Cooper (all from Great Lakes College senior Campus) and Jack McDonagh and Steven Stanton (both from GLC Forster Campus). The team was coached by David Martin
Monday's game was the round of 16 match, the last 16 in the State from a starting point of more than 300 comprehensive high schools.
The State's six sports high schools were excluded from the competition.
Great Lakes College was equal Hunter Region champions with Lambton High School, while Epping Boys High School was the Sydney North champions.
Great lakes College came into Monday's match after knocking out Chatham High School in round two, Taree High School in round three , West Wallsend High School in round three and Warners Bay High School in round four.
GLC had a first round bye.
NSW CHS Football provides opportunities for secondary public school students to play for their schools in State-wide knockout competitions, to represent their educational areas against other areas in NSW and to gain selection in CHS teams and play against students from the private sector, then to play for their country.
