Addressing the function at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club were Brad Christiansen (Independent), David Gillespie (the Nationals), Julie Lyford (Greens) and Peter Alley (Labor).
Manning Valley Business chamber president Jeremy Thornton presided, keeping discussions local.
“Our unemployment is more than double the national average yet we don’t seem to have a road map for correcting this. There is so much we can do to fit in with the national agenda... but we haven’t heard the vision for this from our candidates,” Jeremy said, referring to region’s prime positioning.
Chamber’s Maxine Calladine cited schools, health, hospitals and employment as the common thread throughout, with many having their “horizons broadened.”
“If you’re looking at 54 people in a room, there is always going to be someone who is open to swing. It would be interesting to ask as a follow up next time.”
