Manning Valley Dressage and Hacking Club hosted the NSW Regional Dressage Festival for the first time at Taree Recreation Centre, with riders from all over NSW taking part.
A total of 484 tests were ridden over the two days, with the program also including the Equine, Farrming and Lifestyle Expo.
Manning Hockey Association hosted the NSW under 15 girls’ championships. Twenty five teams took part in three divisions. Manning made the quarter finals in division two. Winners were Northern Sydney Beaches in division one, Parkes in division two and New England in division three.
Manning Hockey president Craig Colvin said more than 60 teams will be in Taree from July 29 to 31 for the Northern NSW Women’s Masters Championships. It’s been a big few days for Manning Hockey following the announcement of a $1.5 million dollar-for-dollar grant from the federal government for extensions to the clubhouse at Taree Recreation Centre along with a third synthetic surface field.
Forster-Tuncurry continued to dominate Lower North Coast Rugby, crushing third placed Manning Ratz 69-0 at Tuncurry.
Gloucester was forced to forfeit to Myall Coast, citing a lengthy injury list while Wallamba beat Old Bar 55-5.
There were two upsets in Group Three Rugby League, with Port City edging out Wingham 24-30 at Wingham while Forster-Tuncurry scored a last gasp 28-26 victory over Taree City at Tuncurry. The game was delayed by half an hour following an injury to Taree City centre Daniel Morris, who was air lifted to the Royal North Shore Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Morris was reported to be resting comfortably after having scans for a neck injury.
In other matches Wauchope continued Old Bar’s woes with a 34-22 win at Wauchope while Port Macquarie were too strong for Macleay Valley when securing a 42-20 result.
Meanwhile two Taree Panthers are playing in the NSW under 15s championship at Port Macquarie this week. Mitch Black is hooker for the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges team while Harry Croker is in the second row for NSW Combined High Schools.
Taree Wildcats scored a determined come-from-behind 5-4 win over a determined Port Saints in Football Mid North Coast Premier League clash played in difficult conditions at Port Macquarie. The win elevates the Wildcats to third place on the ladder.
Competition leaders Camden Haven edged out Macleay Valley while Port United crushed Port FC in other games. No result is to hand from the Wallis Lake/Tuncurry-Forster game.
Old Bar firmed as favourites for the southern all age competition when beating Pacific Palms 4-2 at Palms. In the other games Lansdowne and Taree played a 1-1 draw, Hallidays Point beat Moorland 2-1, Wingham Wanderers accounted for Tinonee 1-0 and Wingham Warriors defeated Wallamba 3-1.
