The project, which began last July, was a joint initiative between MidCoast Council (Great Lakes) and the State government.
Council contributed $219,000 towards the $1M project.
Opening the cycle and walking paths, Local member Stephen Bromhead said cycling was more popular than ever.
With walking trips on the rise, the State government is focused on providing the safe and necessary infrastructure to support local communities, Mr Bromhead said.
The completed work was located at the Townsend/Cross Street Bridge.
Mr Bromhead said the State government had committed $40 million this financial year to provide more than 380 walking and cycling projects across the State to help improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians and to encourage more people to be active and connect communities.
“The project was aimed at building crucial missing links in the cycling and walking network around Forster and Tuncurry to provide better connections between local suburbs and public transport,” Mr Bromhead said.
“End of trip facilities such as bike parking hubs, shelters and lockers were provided at communal meeting places and public areas.
“The project also involved installing new clear and consistent route signage and information throughout the Great Lakes area to improve way finding.”
“With a safer, more convenient and more connected cycle and walking network, more people will leave the car at home and get active.”
