An on-going program of roadworks has been undertaken on The Lakes Way to provide a safer travel route for the 7000 vehicles which use the route daily.

Despite some initial delays due to unexpected ground conditions, works between Godfrey Hill Road and Talabah Close are progressing well, explains senior leader infrastructure service (Taree) Dan Park.

 “Getting in and under the road pavement, we’ve experienced some unforeseen hold-ups, but our focus has been on ensuring the work is completed as quickly and efficiently as possible,” he said. 

“By rescheduling various aspects of the project, we’re committed to making up the lost time so the southbound lane can be re-opened to meet our original timing”.

A southbound detour using Failford Road has been in place since April 20, and is expected to continue until around mid-July, weather-permitting. 

 Motorists are reminded that the detour was carefully planned to offer the safest possible route onto and off the busy Pacific Highway, and that those choosing alternate routes do so at their own risk.

“We’ve had reports of increased traffic on The Bullocky Way, and to our alarm, drivers travelling south in the single-lane section that is open only to northbound traffic”, Mr Park said.

“We can’t stress enough the importance of observing all detour and traffic control signage in place, which is there for good reason”.

Additional traffic controllers have been stationed at the intersection of The Lakes Way and Failford Road during peak times, and have assisted in minimising delays when traffic volume is at its greatest each morning and afternoon.
