A Ballarat resident is calling for locals to look out for the safety of local wildlife, with a dead swan found near Lake Wendouree.

Former vet-nurse Fiona Walsh found the swan while walking the lake on Wednesday morning and said the animal could have died from a potential broken neck.
“Who knows what the circumstances were (but) it made me suspicious because of how localised the wound was,” she said.
“It was very different (to an animal attack) in that the skin wasn’t punctured and there didn’t look to be any other interference.
“I love the wildlife around the lake and it’s important to report this incident so that the community can look out for possible unusual activity.”
Residents are urged to be mindful of local speed limits.
