Just after 1.30pm a traffic and highway patrol officer was dealing with a single motor vehicle crash on the Pacific Highway.
The officer had parked her fully-marked highway patrol vehicle on the side of the road with all warning lights activated to slow approaching traffic and warn them of the incident ahead.
About 1.50pm, a black Toyota Hilux utility travelling at approximately 100km/h overtook another vehicle while approaching the site.
The driver of the Toyota has then braked and lost control of the utility, which then crashed into the stationary highway patrol car, before continuing backwards towards the crash site.
A woman at the crash site has seen the approaching Toyota and called out a warning for everyone to move out of the way.
No-one was injured during the incident.
The driver of the Toyota was breath tested at the scene with a negative result and was issued with a traffic infringement notice for negligent driving.
Traffic and highway patrol commander, assistant commissioner John Hartley said it was extremely lucky no-one was injured following the incident at Wang Wauk.
“The incident highlights the need for road users to be aware of their surroundings on our roads,” he said.
“I strongly urge drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions, especially around crash sites.”
