Re-turfing damaged greens is now expected to take three weeks to achieve.
Repair work will begin on Monday (May 2), and will be undertaken by a Sydney-based contractor.
Whatever chemical agent was used has had sufficient time to run its course resulting in some of the damaged areas showing signs of regrowth.
However, the club is still waiting for forensic results to identify the chemical used to poison the greens.
Club officials are delighted the cost to repair the damage has come in well below the original quote, and recovery time of the greens will now be weeks and not months as previously thought.
“This is great news for our members and visitors, who by the way have still been able to play the course satisfactorily with hole positions being placed in areas to provide respite to the damaged sections,” director and vice-captain Geoff Leonard said.
“The Tuncurry course will remain open to play even when the renovations begin in early May.
“Staff may decide to reduce the number of holes being played to facilitate the repairs, but this will only be for a period of three weeks and the club anticipates that the impact on players’ satisfaction will be minimal.”
Police continue to investigate the damage, and the club has asked if any person has any information that may assist to contact police direct or Forster Tuncurry Golf Club general manager on 6554 6799.
