THE Department of Primary Industries (DPI) have confirmed the shark that washed up on the beach at Tuncurry and Blackhead is a short-finned mako.
DPI cannot determine how it died.
Short-finned Mako sharks are common along the coast of NSW and can grow up to 4m in length.
According DPI’s website, more than 10 tonne of short finned mako shark are caught off NSW every year commercially, and between 30 and 140 tonnes recreationally.
